It’s a bit too late from Apple’s usual cycle but iOS 10 Developer Beta 2 is finally upon us. If you’re already on the beta channel, go to “Settings” -> “General” -> “Software Update and you should see the OTA there. The update on my iPad was about 500 MB. If you haven’t installed iOS 10 beta but want to, check out our guide here.
Alright, here’s everything that’s new in iOS 10 Beta 2. If you’ve discovered something we haven’t mentioned here, share with us in the comments and we’ll add it to the article.
iMessage App Store is Live
Beta 2 finally adds the iMessage App Store to the Messages app. Currently, it only features the 4 Official sticker packs we wrote about recently.
Music App Text Gets Smaller
One of my favorite parts of the new Music app in iOS 10 is hoe everything is big and bold. Turns out, some of the stuff is not going to be so big anymore. In Beta 2, the text in Library tab has been made much thinner.
“Downloaded Music” text has been replaced with “Downloads”.
Larger Widgets Work
One of the most frustrating things about using Beta 1 as a daily driver (I know, I’m brave) was the fact that all my favorite calculator, conversion, and calendar widgets just wouldn’t work. Now, they do.
Feedback App
Beta 2 has added the Feedback app so you can report the bugs and crashes easily.
Folder Background Is Glassy Again
iOS 10 made the background for folder view almost transparent. I wasn’t a big fan and turns out Apple wasn’t either. We’re back to the background being glassy and opaque. The folder still overlays on the home screen instead of overlaying directly on the wallpaper as it used to on iOS 9.
Shuffle in Music Works
You can now shuffle all tracks by an artist or a playlist in the Music app in iOS 10.
Widgets in Notification Center Accessible From Home Screen
Widgets were available in the “Today” view on the far left of the home screen and by swiping right on the Notification Center, but only if you were in an app.
Now, even if you’re on the home screen, Today view will be accessible from the Notification Center drop down.
Also new in Notification Center, the text “Missed” has been replaced by “Recent”.
Rest Finger To Unlock
Now that Slide To Unlock is gone in iOS 10, you need to press the Home button every single time to unlock the device, even if the screen is on. Looks like this feature, available in “Accessibility” will let users unlock the device simply by resting the finger on the Home button.
3D Touch Quick Actions for Control Center Get Icons
iOS 10 lets you 3D Touch icons on the bottom bar. Beta 2 adds icons for Quick Action items and changes text for Flashlight intensity.
Mail App Filters Icon Change
The filter icon in the Mail app has been changed from the funnel style icon to a rounded, line based icon.
Organ Donar Functionality Added
Apple recently spoke about adding Organ Donar functionality to the Health app in iOS 10. In Beta 2, the feature is already live and you can access it from Medical ID section.
Low-Quality Images in Messages
Messages app has added a new toggle that lets you send images in low quality to save data.
Home Controls Updated in Control Center
The Control Center pane for the “Home” app controls has been updated with a slightly different look.
3D Touch Folders Change
Now when you 3D Touch a folder with unread badge it will show unread counts for individual apps in the drop down.
Old Keyboard Click Sounds
Looks like the iOS 9 keyboard click sounds are back and I’m not complaining. The iOS 10 ones sounded a bit too hollow to me.
New Unlock Animation
The lock screen has added a new animation when you unlock the device. Previously, the “lock” icon would just disappear. Now the status bar animates and the word “Unlocked” shows up as a visual cue.
App Store in Split View
App Store finally works in Split View on the iPad Pro.
